Veterinarians—Your Next Great Adventure Awaits!

Down Maine Veterinary Clinic is seeking a full or part-time Associate Veterinarian to join our team. All experience levels are welcome—new grads to seasoned docs! Not in the area? No problem! Relocation assistance is available—trust us, you’ll love it here.

About us:

Our independent, doctor-owned practice has three experienced vets, one of whom is transitioning to retirement. We’re looking for a Veterinary Associate to work three to five days a week, and we welcome everyone from freshly graduated docs to highly experienced ones! If you’re experienced, you can discuss your cases and collaborate as much or as little as you like. For the new grads—Drs. Harmon and Bukowski are patient and experienced teachers, and Dr. Nickerson says she would love to mentor a new vet and be reminded of how everything she learned in school is now totally wrong…challenge accepted?

Dr. Nickerson likes dermatology, while Dr. Harmon is interested in dentistry for reasons none of us understand. We encourage individual interests and growth, so if there’s a niche area you’d like to explore, we’re all in!

Our practice is in a rural-ish area, and we see a wide variety of cases and clients. One thing it’s not is boring—there’s a little something to suit any professional interest. And while we love what we do, it’s not all-encompassing. Your workday will consist of three to five days, with NO WEEKENDS and NO ON-CALL DUTIES. We have four quality referral hospitals in our area, and we don’t hesitate to utilize them. Our goal is for you to love coming to work and be able to leave it entirely behind when you walk out the door.

Speaking of getting out and about, our area offers something for any interest. Surfing, snow, equestrian activities, hiking, kayaking, gardening, flying, music, theater, breweries, and more are all within reach. Experience city life in nearby Portland, nestle into a suburban beach town, or try your hand at homesteading—you really can choose your own adventure.

Sound too good to be true? Well, it is still a job, but it’s the best one any of us have ever had. Even if we didn’t need to, we’d still show up strictly for the entertainment.

You are:

  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Maine.
  • Friendly, open-minded, and dedicated to a high standard of care.
  • In possession of a great sense of humor. No, seriously—we laugh a lot.
  • Passionate about a high quality of life for both pets and veterinary professionals.

Benefits include:

  • 401k with employer contribution
  • Fully funded health insurance coverage
  • HSA contribution
  • Paid vacation/PTO
  • CE and uniform allowance
  • Employee discount
  • License and professional fee allowance
  • Flexible three to five-day work week—no weekends and no on-call shifts
